There is a huge difference between surviving postpartum and actually supporting your body through recovery.
After having seven children myself and working with many mothers through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum healing, I have learned that most women are trying to recover while running on depletion. They are sleep deprived, emotionally overstimulated, undernourished, inflamed, overwhelmed, and trying to continue functioning at full capacity anyway. Then they wonder why they feel anxious, reactive, exhausted, foggy, disconnected, or emotionally stretched thin.
Postpartum recovery deserves more support than “try to rest when you can.”
A woman’s hormones, nervous system, blood sugar, inflammation levels, sleep patterns, mineral stores, emotional health, and recovery capacity are all shifting at the same time. That is a tremendous amount for the body to carry.
Over the years there are certain products, herbs, and tools I have consistently recommended because I have either personally used them myself, seen mothers genuinely benefit from them, or both. I tend to value practical support over trendy wellness hype. Mothers do not need another overwhelming protocol. They need support that realistically fits into postpartum life.

One of the biggest things I wish postpartum women understood is how deeply blood sugar and cortisol affect recovery. Many mothers spend the postpartum period surviving on caffeine, sugar, convenience foods, skipped meals, and whatever they can grab while holding a baby. Unfortunately, unstable blood sugar patterns can contribute to irritability, shakiness, poor sleep, emotional overwhelm, anxiety, inflammation, cravings, and energy crashes.
The postpartum body is already under demand. Add sleep deprivation, stress, inflammation, and constant glucose spikes into the picture and many women begin feeling physically and emotionally underwater.
This is one reason I encourage women to prioritize protein, hydration with minerals, balanced meals, walking after meals when possible, and lowering ultra-processed foods. The body heals better when it feels nourished and safe.
One herb many breastfeeding mothers have appreciated over the years is milk thistle. Traditionally, milk thistle has been used to support liver health, nourishment, and breastfeeding mothers. Many women are trying to function at full capacity while deeply depleted, and eventually the body starts asking for restoration one way or another.
Start simple. Eat more protein. Add minerals and hydration. Step outside. Lower overstimulation. Walk after meals. Support your nervous system. Protect your sleep where possible. Ask for help. Give your body permission to recover instead of rushing it.
